Aavegotchi is letting the community vote if more Gotchis should be added to the ecosystem through an event called “Haunt.” Affirmative votes mean that the cap for available Gotchis will be increased and there will be new pixelated ghosts in the game world.

Aavegotchi’s Haunt Proposal
Unlike cryptocurrencies and most NFT-based games with a finite supply, Aavegotchi has a dynamic supply model. Aavegotchi advocates that having a hard cap on Gotchis will limit the potential for increasing adoption. Moreover, increasing the supply is a prerequisite for some of the future features. Basically, the project allows the community to decide if they want to introduce new Aavegotchi ghosts through a Haunt event.
The ongoing voting round demonstrates the core function of the AavegotchiDAO. According to developers, supply by consensus ensures the community has full control over how and when they want to introduce more Gotchis.
How the Haunt Works
If the proposal gets approved, it will be Aavegotchi’s second Haunt. The first Haunt happened in March 2021 when the game dropped 10,000 portal NFTs on a first come first serve basis. The community snatched up the Gotchis in less than 60 seconds. As such, there were plenty of potential buyers and community members who weren’t able to participate in the auction. Since then, the team has been toying with the idea of hosting a second Haunt.
The second Haunt will add 15,000 portals which are necessary to summon a new Gotchi. However, players still need Polygon Aave.com amTokens to summon ghosts. Learning from the past auction, 80% of the portals will be offered in a bid-to-earn style auction while 20% will be awarded through a raffle. This auction model will ensure that opportunity to buy will not be dependent on how fast users click.
A Brief History of Aavegotchi’s Haunt Proposals
This is not the first time that the core team is proposing a second Haunt. Pixelcraft Studios endorsed a proposal for a second Haunt when the Gotchis sold out for less than 60 seconds. However, the consensus in favor of creating a second Haunt fell short by less than 5%. Instead of being disappointed, the core team was actually impressed because the AavegotchiDAO fulfilled its intended purpose.
Now, months later the core team believes that the community is ready to discuss and vote on the Haunt proposal again. This is because Aavegotchi has taken big strides in terms of achievements, roadmap updates and maturity of the Polygon ecosystem. Given this, the team decided to open a new DAO discussion thread. This time the response has been reassuring that’s why the Haunt proposal was crafted.
Rationale
Aavegotchi recently announced that like Axie Infinity, it is adapting the play-to-earn model in its gaming world. To do this, Gotchi ghosts need to work together to fight the Liquidators. Thus, a second Aavegotchi Haunt is necessary because the Gotchiverse needs more citizens.
