An ‘American Psycho’ NFT collection has dropped on the Curio marketplace. Inspired by the modern classic novel and subsequent movie, the series went live on Monday 28th June.
Unlike many non-fungible token drops, the ‘American Psycho’ NFT collection has something of a story to tell in itself. This begins with the sale of 50 business card NFTs, with five up for grabs each day. These get you invited to a “Reservation at Dorsia”, which expires 9th July, or when the series sells out.
At that point, business card holders gain access to the complete gallery of tokens. In total, 29 are being sold. These include stills from the movie, accessories, and three one-of-a-kind animations, including ‘Bitcoin Psycho’. You can explore the collection on Curio.
What is this Dorsia in the ‘American Psycho’ NFT Collection?
If you’ve not read Bret Easton Ellis’ landmark book, or seen the film, then some of the references might not stand out. Let’s begin by explaining this is a tale of jealousy and sadism in the 1980s, and it’s also about greed (which is more than fitting for NFTs).
First up, the protagonist, Patrick Bateman. Think a typically groomed, high-flying Manhattan businessman who loves success, bands like Genesis and Huey Lewis & The News, maiming and killing people. Among his list of other obsessions, you’ll also find business cards.
The NFT business cards in turn link to characters from the tale, namely Bateman and his arch-nemesis in white-collar work, Paul Allen. Dorsia, meanwhile, refers to an ultra-exclusive restaurant that Bateman uses as clout and cover during his spiral into violent madness.
Curio is hosting the sale, a marketplace specialising in entertainment brand and music artist NFTs. This is a particularly busy space right now, with Tezos-powered green platform OneOf and the WOM Protocol musician and TikTok marketplace YAAS among the recent launches.
