Animoca Brands announced its second partnership deal with Lucid Sight. This time it has entered into a publishing agreement granting exclusive and global license to publish and further develop the NFT-Based game Crypto Space Commander (CSC).

The relationship between Animoca Brands and Lucid Sight started in 2019. Lucid Sight granted Animoca Brands exclusive rights to promote, market, and distribute its games in Asia. This includes the MLB Champions™, an officially licensed product of Major League Baseball. To seal the deal, Animoca Brands also invested $6 Million in Lucid Sight.
Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands, shared his view on the partnership, “With regards to CSC, we’ve been a small shareholder of Lucid Sight for some time, as well as the Asian distributor for CSC since 2019, so this is more of an evolution of the relationship.”
Crypto Space Commander’s Player-owned Economy
CSC is a free-to-play game that can be downloaded from Steam. In terms of general gaming theme, it is an open-universe, sandbox-style space MMO with a player-owned economy. Furthermore, CSC has a 100% blockchain-secured economy where all valued assets will be created, tracked, and traded as NFTs.

Players can travel to different star systems, mine stellar bodies for resources, craft items and ships to sell, battle pirates and other players while commanding their very own Starship. CSC utilizes the Ethereum blockchain to secure game assets, enforce P2P contract actions, and run the game economy.
What’s next for Animoca Brands?
Animoca Brands is a leader in digital entertainment, blockchain and AI. Its portfolio of original games includes The Sandbox, Crazy Kings, and Crazy Defense Heroes. It is also responsible for releasing products utilizing popular IPs including Formula 1®, Marvel, WWE, Power Rangers, MotoGP™, and Doraemon.

Robby Yung was one of the speakers at CGC | NFT 2.0. He shared how he sees The Sandbox 5 years down the line:
“The Sandbox is an open world metaverse. The great thing about the Sandbox is I cannot imagine what it could be in 5 years and that’s actually a good thing. Meaning it’s going to be up to the users to create that content and to be able to generate excitement from the content. We have created the platform but the platform is handed over to the users. Frankly, the users create more exciting content than we could ever do. So I think that’s really exciting.”
Future: Staking and Renting NFTs
Animoca Brands’ portfolio of blockchain investments and partnerships includes Sky Mavis (Axie Infinity), Dapper Labs (CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot), OpenSea, Harmony, Bitski, and Alien Worlds. As an industry leader, Animoca Brands champions innovations that will solve issues that the industry is facing. For example, NFTs are collectibles so users might hold on to them instead of using them. Robby Yung shared the possible solution that Animoca Brands is exploring:
“The model that we are looking into is the idea of rental. So basically, when player stakes their NFTs with us we can then take the NFTs from the staking pool and rent them out to other players to use during the time period that they are staked. I think that actually will be a very elegant solution to that.”
