As the crypto market continues to crash, it seems that CryptoPunks NFTs have flipped Bored Apes again, but only momentarily!
In a tweet, NFT enthusiast and influencer @MikeMcDonal89 informed the community about the flip yesterday. But as of writing Bored Apes regained the spot with the floor price of 73.5 ETH while the CryptoPunks floor price is 65 ETH.
CryptoPunk and Bored Ape Yacht ‘Flippening’ History
As previously reported, the first ‘flippening’ happened on December 22 when Bored Ape Yacht Club’s floor price rose to 53.9 ETH, flipping CryptoPunks’ floor price of 52.69 ETH. This was a big deal in the community back then because CryptoPunks was the most popular NFT collection in 2021 and the flip made headlines all over the NFT industry.
BAYC vs. CryptoPunk NFTs
The Bored Ape Yacht Club is a collection of 10,000 unique Bored Ape NFTs— unique digital collectibles living on the Ethereum blockchain. Getting a Bored Ape means having a Yacht Club membership card. Owners of any Bored Ape will also have intellectual property rights for their Ape. The NFT comes with many present and future utilities.
The CryptoPunks on the other hand, are also 10,000 uniquely generated characters that are on the Ethereum blockchain too. Many dubbed the collection as the original PFP NFTs. The developer, Larva Labs are more strict in their licensing rules and have added little value to their collection so far.
Will we see more flips between CryptoPunks and Bored Ape in the future? Most probably. The flip has happened before and it’s likely to happen again.
