British singer-songwriter Boy George has just revealed that he is a fan of crypto, NFT space and metaverse. Moreover, the Culture Club frontman performed his first metaverse gig this week and rollout out his first NFT project, CryptoQueenz.
Boy George is the latest star to perform at the virtual Vegas City Flamingos Club; which served as a taster of what fans can expect from the 80s pop icon. In addition, he revealed that he spent months creating an NFT collection based on his Scarman designs. The drop took place on March 1st on OpenSea. The collection’s current floor price is 0.049 ETH.
His NFT drop has a charitable element. This is because a percentage of each sale will be transferred to the Elton John Aids Foundation and Shelter charities.
In his interview with Yahoo Finance, Boy George said: “From an ideas point of view, I’ve just continued doing what I’ve always done, and that’s just chasing the next idea…whether it’s through music, fashion, virtual art [etc].”
He also claimed the NFT space excites him because “there is a sort of “Wild West” feeling to it at the moment.” Furthermore, he likened the current excitement about the metaverse to the early days of the Internet; and also recalled a conversation with David Bowie in the 90s about the future of the internet.
In addition to dropping the collection, Boy George auctioned an ultra-rare CryptoQueenz NFT to assist the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and Voices of Children charities in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. This followed Pussy Riot‘s Nadezhda Tolokonnikova’s launch of UkraineDAO.
