    The BRIT Awards: An Overview

The BRIT Awards are the British Phonographic Industry’s annual popular music awards. It’s the highest-profile music awards ceremony in the UK and one of the most iconic events in British pop culture.

This year’s nominations were revealed before Christmas. Adele, Ed Sheeran, Sam Fender, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Little Simz, and Olivia Rodrigo are among the nominees, while Holly Humberstone was already awarded the BRITs Rising Star award. The ceremony will also include performances by Dave, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, and Little Simz.

The NFT collection, designed by artist MRE, will commemorate the 2022 winners of the Artist of the Year; Best New Artist; Mastercard Album of the Year; Alternative/Rock Act; Dance Act; Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act, and Pop/R&B Act categories. There are a total of 13 categories and 250 editions, with each NFT costing a mere £10.

This initiative will offer fans the possibility of owning a piece of music history. It will also give NFT holders the chance to win VIP tickets to next year’s BRIT Awards. Another key point is that all proceeds from the sale of these NFTs will be donated to the BRIT Trust charity.

    A forward-looking award ceremony

Giuseppe De Cristofano, Director of Digital, BRIT Awards and Co-Chair of BRITs Digital Committee commented: “NFTs are an exciting new space for The BRIT Awards, and we feel it is really important that we take this opportunity to help support charities such as Nordoff Robbins and The BRIT School through The BRIT Trust by pricing the collectibles at just £10. We’re really excited by the creative from MRE, and we can’t wait to see how fans engage with the collection and commemorate with artists after The BRITs on February 8th!”

The Serenade team is also looking forward to the Brit Awards NFT drop. “Serenade couldn’t be more excited to extend The BRIT Awards’ legacy of innovation and philanthropy into the NFT world with simplified eco-friendly digital collectibles; commemorating 2022’s award winners with digital trophies designed by the wonderful MRE,” said Max Shande, the Founder of Serenade.

NFTs are a natural progression for forward-looking music ceremonies such as the BRIT Awards. Artists such as Kanye West, Grimes, Steve Aoki, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem have already shown their support for NFTs. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before institutions such as the BRITs followed suit!
