Chainlink Games Introduce Auditable Randomness to Blockchain

    By EvanMarch 31, 2023Updated:April 4, 20232 Mins Read

Chainlink is solving a huge problem for the game industry. The Web3 services company will work with the gaming platform Made For Gamers to provide a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness to blockchain gaming. So, why is randomness important for gaming?

Why is Randomness Important for Gaming?

Randomness is important to gaming because items earned playing games are worth actual, real-life money. Fortnite and CS:GO skins already sell for thousands of dollars, for example. In Sept 2021, one CS:GO player turned down an offer of $1.5m for a rare variant of the Karambit Case Hardened Knife, stating that the offer was too low to accept.

It’s not a huge leap to assume this trend will continue in Web3, and collectors will continue to pay huge premiums for rare in-game items. Through NFT technology, gamers will be able to own their hard-earned weapons and skins themselves for the first time. This ability will unlock huge earning potentials for gamers

Because digital assets earned in blockchain gaming will carry huge monetary values, it’s critical that players know for sure that games are fair.

How Will Chainlink Help Web3 Games to be Fair?

Web3 platform ‘Made For Gamers ‘is adopting the Chainlink Verifiable Random Function. As a result, players can confirm the fairness of game outcomes and reward distributions. Chainlink VRF accomplishes this by creating a transparent, on-chain Randon Number Generator function (or RNG for short). Paul-David Oosthuizen, CEO of Made for Gamers, writes, “Web3 gaming communities are demanding more transparency from projects, which is exactly what Chainlink VRF can help give them. It’s a must-have for Web3 games that care about the integrity of their game and building a committed community.”

Chainlink and Made for Gamers are giving gamers a trustless, verifiable method to know games are fair. In the process, the two companies are helping to build a new era of gaming. Therefore, players will soon be able to compete for valuable digital assets in a provably even playing field.
