Auction house Christie’s is all set to auction NFTs by top African crypto artist, Osinachi. The drop comes in collaboration with the 1-54 African art fair. This is the first time Christie’s is offering an NFT by a contemporary African artist in Europe, making the auction all the more significant.
“Through my art, I want to tell authentic stories influenced by my personal experience,” Osinachi was quote by Morebranches. “One of the things I have experienced as a Nigerian is injustice. Another is inequality. The list goes on. I use my art to highlight these issues….Specifically, in exploring queerness.”
More on Osinachi’s Christie’s auction
Titled “Different Shades of Water”, the auction features five of Osinachi’s works. These works depict the artist’s reimagination of David Hockney’s 1972 swimming pool painting. Here, he has sketched a Black protagonist, drawing from his personal life in Nigeria.
Interestingly, Osinachi uses Microsoft Word to create his artworks. Using the software’s limited design tools, he has brought his stunning works to life.
These are the NFTs part of the auction:
- Man in a Pool I (2021)
- Pool Day I (2021)
- Man in a Pool II (2021)
- Man in a Pool III (2021)

The auction will go live at 10 AM BST on October 5 and close at 1 PM BST on October 19. The works are estimated to fetch between $50,000 to $80,000. The NFTs can be bought with Ether or Bitcoin as well.
Osinachi is a well-known presence in the crypto art world, with some of his works fetching $75,000. He was also one of the featured artists in Decentraland’s Second Annual Art Week this year.
