All about Pussy Riot’s ComplexCon NFTs
Pussy Riot’s NFT for ComplexCon’s NFT auction is titled, “Eden. 33 Utopias”. The collection consists of 66 editions, each offering an “alternative future”. Furthermore, each collector randomly gets a particular NFT. According to the LGND Art website, the NFTs encourage people to “envision a more free, fun, kind and inclusive society.”
All the NFTs in the collection are now sold out. Each NFT cost 0.31 ETH or USD $1,450.
Three members of Pussy Riot were arrested nine years ago for speaking up against church leaders who supported President Vladimir Putin. Their arrest gave rise to a global art-artivist movement, with thousands of people across the globe holding protests in the women’s support.
In September, the activists released an NFT based on their prison sentencing documents. Titled “Virgin Mary, Please Become A Feminist”, Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova drew the Virgin Mary in the shape of a vagina over an online version of the sentencing document. Furthermore, the edges of the image featured hearts, flowers, anarchists symbols, rainbow flags, and more.
“To begin with I thought, ‘I hate this bit of paper (from prison sentence). I just want to burn it’,” she told The Art Newspaper. “But, instead, I created these childish and really joyful little drawings, which turned something that depressed me into a tool that I used to empower myself.”
What is ComplexCon?
ComplexCon is an annual curated festival that brings together trending brands and high-profile people in pop culture. Created by Youth entertainment company, Complex Networks, the festival allows attendees to shop merch, watch live performances, talks, and much more.
Thanks to LGND Art, for the first time ever, the festival is hosting an NFT auction. This gives the ComplexCon community a chance to see the works of some of the top artists in the space. The festival, which went live yesterday, will close today. However, the NFT auction will go on till November 12 on LGND Art’s platform.
LGND Art is a highly curated NFT marketplace, with a focus on empowering artists across the world. Using its “eco-conscious blockchain technology”, the platform helps artists to build their future and reach a wider audience. It also brings together high-end collectors and “beat-in-class” artists.
