If you’ve been keeping an eye on NFTEvening regularly then the rise of blockchain and play-to-earn games won’t have gone unnoticed. Now we can confirm that Ubisoft play-to-earn blockchain games are coming in the near future.

Of course, we’ve known the French video game giant has been preparing to step into this emerging end of the gaming scene for some time already. Late last month we reported on the video game giant becoming a key investor in Animoca Brands — a huge name in blockchain gaming. However, it now looks as though the Paris-based firm may have plans of its own, too.
It all came out in an investor call when Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot let slip that at least some in his team are working on play-to-earn titles powered by blockchain. According to reports, the boss — and his firm — believe this technology can revolutionise gaming. He also says the adoption of blockchain for gaming can increase the existing gaming audience. When you consider video games are already the biggest selling media products on the planet that prediction is particularly mindblowing.
What We Know About Ubisoft Play-to-Earn Blockchain Games Right Now
Ubisoft’s play-to-earn blockchain games revolution is really all about one thing. Simply put, they want to give players ownership of games, and let them make cash from play. At the time of writing, no specifics have been given on titles in development, but there are some important points out there to make a note of.

Firstly, Ubisoft’s entrepreneur labs show the company has a real appreciation for where blockchain and play-to-earn gaming has got to. Teams such as Xaya, Axie Infinity, Splinterlands, Guild of Guardians, and Sorare have all been invited to Ubisoft HQ to participate in workshops.
It’s also important to note that earlier this year Ubisoft launched a fantasy football game. This included an NFT element. Apparently, Ubisoft staff also expressed their admiration for improvements to ‘Axie Infinity”s battle systems. The point being, those working for the French firm will have picked up a lot from their time with these blockchain gaming experts.
When Will We See Ubisoft Play-To-Earn Blockchain Games?
This is the million-dollar question. However, we’re not expecting games to be too far away now considering how much time Ubisoft has spent with developers in the blockchain gaming space. It’s also worth noting Ubisoft already supports the blockchain-based game distribution platform, Ultra.
The overall rise in blockchain and play-to-earn gaming during the past year also supports the idea that Ubisoft would want to get into this world pretty quickly. One look at our article on ‘Axie Infinity‘ proves how big the market is. And, crucially, demand is only growing right now as the scene explodes. This is why Ubisoft just invested in Animoca Brands, a leader in the blockchain gaming sector. Essentially, it means the company is already active within the space, albeit through a third party. Nevertheless, it’s still active, and it’s only a matter of time until we see some real results.
