Cozomo De’ Medici Donates 22 NFTs to LA Museum

    By Emily NealeFebruary 14, 2023Updated:February 15, 20232 Mins Read

Cozomo de’ Medici has announced that they are donating several NFTs to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The pseudonymous NFT influencer is giving 22 artworks by 13 artists to the museum. The donation includes a CryptoPunk from NFT collective Larva Labs and a piece by World of Women artist, Yam Karkai. The pieces will be displayed in the museum alongside works by Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo.

NFTs enter the Museum: A New Era in Art Collection

Cozomo de’ Medici, an influencer in on-chain art, is making a generous donation of NFTs to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). De’ Medici is excited about bridging the gap between digital art and physical art. Furthermore, the contextualization of historically significant works alongside iconic pieces in the museum is a significant achievement.

The donation has received keen support from LACMA CEO Michael Govan. In a press release, Govan said he was grateful for de’ Medici’s forward-thinking generosity. He also praised how the donation will broaden the museum’s art collection. The donation will not only expand the diversity of the museum’s art collection but also challenge the museum to create new methods and techniques for preserving NFTs and other works created on the blockchain.

NFTs have recently been making waves in the physical art world. Last week, Yuga Labs made a significant donation of a CryptoPunk to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Additionally, Larva Labs donated one of its iconic Autoglyph NFTs to the same museum. The contributions are part of Yuga Labs’ Punks Legacy Project, which launched in December with a CryptoPunk gift to the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art.

With these donations, it seems that NFTs are slowly but surely moving from their digital domains and into the realm of physical art organizations.
