Hip hop fans will have picked up on how many high-value NFTs West Coast legend Snoop Dogg has been picking up. Following his first non-fungible purchase in August he has built up a sizeable collection. And, back in April, he also sold his own series, ‘A Journey with the Dogg’. Now the rap star has been confirmed as the buyer of a new $3.9million token, providing the alias he recently claimed is actually him. Cozomo Medici’s XCOPY deal ranks among the more expensive NFTs we’ve seen in some time, but that’s not the only notable part of the story.

Firstly, it’s the latest activity Snoop has been involved in using his apparent alter-ego, Cozomo de’ Medici. Secondly, it’s one of the most high-profile sales by XCOPY so far. This is particularly significant as the London-based crypto artist has been on the scene since the start, using SuperRate from its launch — the marketplace where Snoop bought this latest token.
What does the Cozomo Mendici XCOPY NFT Art Look Like?
The piece Snoop bought from XCOPY is called ‘Some A**hole‘, and was made in 2018. Six months ago, it was bought by a SuperRare user, @yeahyeah, for 100 ETH. At the time, this worked out around $180,900. Substantially less than the 1300 ETH Snoop offered, which currently translates to around $3.9million.
In terms of the artwork itself, you can find a still version at the top of this story. The image features a scrawled cartoon character set against an animated backdrop.

What Other NFTs Does Snoop Own?
When Snoop launched his own NFT series in April we knew it was only the beginning. After all, he rarely does things by halves and his statement about smoking a Dogecoin on the moon with Elon Musk was, although tongue in cheek, a clear sign he has a vested interest in all things crypto.
Following on from this it took the rhyme king several months to invest in his first NFT purchase. Again this suggests someone who takes the scene seriously. Suffice to say, those who want to master the non-fungible world should be willing to spend time understanding before spending.
In terms of his current wallet, we know this contains no less than nine CryptoPunks. As those who have read our recent stories on this record-setting series will know, that’s a lot of money. In fact, one of the pieces he owns from that collection is thought to be worth almost $5million alone.
Of course, we didn’t necessarily know all this until recently. The real identity of Cozomo de’ Medici was a mystery to most until just last week, when the rapper came clean and admitted it was him. Having said that, some may have had their suspicions given he has been very vocal about NFTs this year. Last month he even claimed the technology could be used to support “the original founding fathers of hip hop“. Nevertheless, at the time of writing some still have doubts as to the real identity of de’ Medici. Time will tell whether real proof emerges that this is indeed the famous Long Beach, California rapper.
