NFT project CryptoRugs was enjoying plenty of success this year – only for its owners to rugpull the project twice. Now, the community is determined to take the project to a whole new level.

CryptoRugs’ NFTs: a double rug pull
CryptoRugs is an NFT collection of 5,555 unique NFTs on the OpenSea platform. In essence, each NFT is featuring a digital rug dedicated to a memorable hack, or rug pull, in cryptocurrency history.
The project became an instant hit among NFT collectors. What’s more, by August 30th the collection was already sold out, surpassing 275 ETH in sales.
According to the community, the next step would’ve been creating a roadmap, or coming up with new ways of entertainment for the NFTs. After all, it is what most successful projects do nowadays, right?
However, this time the developers of the CryptoRugs NFT project stayed quiet. Meanwhile, the community pressured them to share part of the responsibilities, just to keep the NFT project alive. Shortly after settling for the agreement, the developers unfortunately disappeared.

MetaRugs: a brand new start for digital rugs
After ten days of not getting a single reply from admins, the CryptoRugs NFT community became tired of waiting. Unsurprisingly, they decided to take over the project and bring it to a new level. In fact, they even shared their story online, under the new name: MetaRugs.
“We stand by every user who truly loves the concept that CryptoRugs started. As appointed community stewards and multisig signers, we feel abandoned and betrayed by the OG Crypto Rugs admins’ unfulfilled promises of transition, and subsequent ghosting. For all these reasons, we are moving forward with rugs v2, with or without their blessing,” they say.

Although they love the rugs, they admit the artwork isn’t what it could be. According to their new discord server, the new plan is to release a second generation of rugs with completely new artwork. Apparently, when minting goes live, CryptoRugs NFT holders can swap their old rug for a new rug. However, the old rugs will still remain. If you don’t want to take part, the new team say you can keep your old one.
Actually, the CryptoRugs holders weren’t the first NFT community with this idea. This fall, the Lucky Maneki creators also completed the transition towards community ownership, much to the fans’ delight. However, if you want to take part in the CryptoRugs NFT community, they looking for a website designer, a media manager and much more. Get involved via their new discord server!
