The iconic European football competition, the English Premier League (EPL) is officially tapping into NFTs! Accordingly, the company filed two crypto trademarks to the US Patents and Trademark Office. The filings revealed big plans for the NFT sports niche, which is already expanding at the speed of light.

English Premier League NFTs: what should we expect?
One of the most renowned sporting events in modern history, the English Premier League, is joining the NFT market. The group submitted trademark applications on June 6th, according to a licensed trademark attorney, Michael Kondoudis.
To clarify, EPL submitted two applications. The first one included its iconic lion logo. Meanwhile, the second one was for a trophy featuring a crown and two golden lions on each side.
In addition, the filings mention NFT-related licenses. Thereby, we might soon enjoy NFTs, exchange services, and even digital merch from the English Premier League itself.
“The Premier League is regularly watched by more than a billion people, so the value attached to the brand is substantial,” Kondoudis said. “These filings represent a logical step to protect the brand in today’s economy, including virtual and crypto elements, and tomorrow’s virtual economy in the metaverse”.

Are sports NFTs on the rise?
At this moment, we don’t know when the English Premier League NFTs will drop. Meanwhile, sports enthusiasts can look into other exciting projects.
For example, ARIA Exchange is an NFT marketplace offering collectibles from top sports legends. The platform already partnered with huge names in the industry, including Alex Bregman, Bill Russell, Mickey Mantle, and more.
Looking into European football, the German league Bundesliga already joined the NFT trend. The team signed a two-year collaboration with Sorare, the iconic NFT fantasy football game.
All in all, the English Premier League will likely take the sports NFT niche by storm once its collectibles arrive. From virtual merch to exclusive digital artworks, fans will have a new way of connecting with their favorite football players.
