Blockchain-based digital collectibles platform Fantastec SWAP has partnered with Dapper Labs to build a new peer-to-peer (P2P) NFT marketplace for football. Dapper Labs is the creator of iconic NFT collectibles such as CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot.
As part of the partnership, Fantastec will relaunch its NFTs on Flow, a next-generation blockchain developed by Dapper Labs. Once relaunched this summer, fans and collectors will be able to buy or sell NFTs on the platform, the company said in a blog post.
Fantastec x Dapper Labs: NFTs for football fans
The new NFT platform will offer football fans a secondary market to easily buy and sell their unique SWAP NFTs. The platform will feature European soccer clubs Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Arsenal, among others.
Gareth Bale’s bicycle kick goal for Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final is one of the iconic NFTs included in Fantastec SWAP’s collection. Erling Haaland’s signature from his debut with Dortmund is another unique NFT in the collection.
Commenting about the partnership, Fantastec Co-Founder Simon Woollard said: “This is a significant upgrade for our worldwide SWAP fan community.”
“Over the last few seasons we have consistently crafted a memorable range of unique NFTs,” Woollard added. “We are especially proud to have created the first ever women’s football NFT collections with the Arsenal women’s team.”
Woollard further said that there have been several “special players and moments” in the last three European football seasons. “It’s an exciting milestone and brings powerful new features to worldwide fans utilising our platform today and in the future,” he added.
Peer-to-Peer NFT Market
According to Fantastec SWAP, its collaboration with Dapper Labs will enable football fans to buy and sell unique SWAP NFTs on a P2P basis. Moreover, fans will also be able to swap their NFTs with other collectors.
Fantastec SWAP has been curating and minting NFTs for sports teams since 2018. Currently, it has over 2 million NFTs in circulation worldwide. This also includes NFTs co-created with many football stars, leading to much fanfare.
Fantastec stated that it decided to mint its future NFTs on Flow due to the blockchain’s “technological advancements” and “growing needs of NFT owners.” Dapper Labs claims its Flow blockchain network is highly scalable, fast, secure, and environmentally sustainable. In addition, Flow is designed for developers to easily build consumer-friendly applications on the blockchain.
The new NFT marketplace will feature “15 distinctive levels of craftsmanship and creativity to engage sports fans.” In addition, the secondary market feature will provide SWAP collectors with more opportunities to earn economic value from their collections.
“We’re excited to be able to bring the uniqueness and scale of the Fantastec SWAP NFTs into Flow, expanding our next-generation ecosystem,” said Dapper Labs Co-Founder Mik Nayeem. “The SWAP team’s experience, coupled with the passion of their collectors, will be a perfect fit for Flow.”
The NFT industry has grown in leaps and bounds in the last couple of months. With the competition high, Fantatsec has some tall orders to meet. It remains to be seen how it will tackle the competition from other NFT platforms like Sorare.
