It’s a wrap! FEWOCiOUS’ auction with Christie’s as its youngest artist is officially over. When the hammer went down, gross sales crossed $2.1 Million. “Hello, I’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS) and This Is My Life” is the life story of the 18-year old artist and his journey as a transgender.
Highlights: FEWOCiOUS’ Auction at Christie’s
FEWOCiOUS or FEWO to fans auctioned off five digital artworks representing his formative years from age 14-18. It’s a no-holds-barred and vulnerable collection as Fewo revealed his struggles as a transgender in an abusive home. It is also an inspirational collection because through his art, FEWO was able to leave home and start his journey. The pieces were presented in his signature surrealist style.
FEWO released an emotional thank you video to his fans through Twitter. He wrote, “At a loss for words right now. Thank you so much to everyone for making me feel loved, believing in my art and believing in me; it means the world. I’ll never forget this feeling or these last few weeks.”
Justin Sun, Tron’s CEO, shared on Twitter that he won the bid for one of the pieces. Sun recently established an NFT Investment Fund. He has a growing list of blue-chip NFTs including Andy Warhol’s Three-Self Portraits NFTs and Beeple’s Ocean Front.
Sun is the new owner of Year 2, Age 15 — My Mama’s Dream which features a distorted figure holding a mask. The mask reads ‘Hi!! I’m Victoria’ and ‘Am I pretty enough 4 you?.’ Sun was happy to pay $420,000 to acquire the piece.
More about the Auction
Aside from the digital art, there are also physical copies of the NFTs sold in the auction. Buyers have an option to request FEWOcIOUS to deliver the physical copy of their purchase. The pieces will be packed in a custom suitcase for each collector across the world. This is an ode to how he transported his earliest drawings and paintings when leaving behind his past in pursuit of a brighter future.
The physical copy of the NFTs is currently displayed at Christie’s gallery in New York. The auction has come a long way since it sold a Bitcoin-themed physical artwork last fall. Since then, Christie’s set new records left and right. Most notable is Beeple’s historic $69.3 Million Sale. It also announced that it would accept crypto payment for a high-ticket item. The piece is Keith Haring’s painting estimated to be worth between $5.4 Million to $6.2 Million.
Journey to the top
FEWOCiOUS’ journey serves as an inspiration for many young and aspiring artists. His NFT drop on his birthday which fell on New Year’s Day pulled in $370,000. He also started modestly, selling pieces like “She Makes Me Feel Alive” and Moment I Fell in Love for $6000 and $25000, respectively.
The teen artist is also happy to share his blessing. In December, Morgan Creek Digital co-founders Anthony Pompliano and Jason Williams commissioned him to create an artwork for charity. The piece sold for $23,350 on Nifty Gateway with the proceeds donated to the non-profit Food Bank for New York City.
FEWOCiOUS’ journey to the top proves that NFTs are a great equalizer. Your background, gender and age would not determine your success, only your ART.
