GameStop NFT Marketplace is Now Accepting Applications from Content Creators

    By Reethu RaviJanuary 4, 2022Updated:February 2, 20232 Mins Read

Video game retail behemoth, GameStop’s NFT marketplace has been in the making for a while. Job postings for the platform started appearing early last year and had given rise to many speculations. Now, the company is calling for applications from content creators for its NFT platform. The updated website says, “Calling all creators.”

GameStop NFT Marketplace: What we know so far

GameStop first hinted at a new NFT marketplace in June 2021. Back then, they were hiring engineers, designers, gamers, marketers, and community leaders. This was followed by another job listing in October, seeking directors of product marketing, senior software engineers, and more.

Now, content creators can submit their applications by filling a creator form on the website. Based on the form, the applicants can be independent artists, creators, game developers, or “meme lords”. Even companies, brands, game studios, and IP holders can apply to become a creator. In addition, the form asks questions about previous NFTs, links to earlier works, and what they want to create for the GameStop NFT marketplace. All these questions indicate that the platform will likely be a curated marketplace. Meaning, all artists may not be able to put up their NFTs on the platform, as with OpenSea.

GameStop is yet to reveal more details about the platform. As of now, it has not announced a launch date either. Once launched, the platform will surely be a game-changer.

In the meantime, GameStop is reportedly in talks with AMC Entertainment Holdings regarding a partnership for the marketplace. However, neither of the firms has commented on the news. But, if true, the partnership spells great things for the industry. AMC had recently dropped the Spider-Man: No Way Home NFTs.
