NFTs steadily going mainstream
NFTs started as a domain of cryptocurrency enthusiasts but with various sports franchises launching their own NFT Collection it’s steadily going mainstream. Following the success of NBA’s NFT Marketplace, Top Shot, with over 800,000 registered users in 1st quarter of 2021 alone, other teams in various sports like Formula 1’s Red Bull Racing and US Pro Soccer League’s MLS have announced their plans to launch their own NFT Collection.
Sports fans are catching on fast with the NFT trend because it has a familiar real-life counterpart – collecting sports memorabilia like basketball trading cards. Now we have a unique set of NFT consumers: sports fans who are not cryptocurrency enthusiasts. This guarantees that this is just the start – more athletes, teams and leagues will dip into NFTs in the future.
