The Harlem Globetrotters are releasing an NFT version of a sitcom in partnership with Snoop Dogg. This was announced by the rapper on October 20th (his 50th Birthday) and the drop is part of a campaign and larger NFT collection between the two parties.
About the Harlem Globetrotters and Snoop Dogg
The Harlem Globetrotters are an American exhibition basketball team, founded in 1926. They combine athleticism, comedy and theater in their games. Since their start, they have played in 26,000 exhibition games in 124 countries and territories. Many future NBA players played in the Globetrotters before their pro careers, most notably Wilt Chamberlain. Additionally, the team hold several Guinness World Records and have featured on TV many times. Despite all this, the weirdest fact about the Globetrotters has to be that Pope John Paul II became an honorary Harlem Globetrotter in 2000.
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. is an American rapper wh0’s known professionally as Snoop Dogg. His career started in 1992 when he featured on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single, “Deep Cover,” and then on Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic. Snoop has since sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Outwith music, he’s a man of many talents. He’s additionally an actor, businessman, record producer and certified football coach. Now, most recently he’s clearly shown his love and support for Crypto and NFTs. He’s previously partnered with Russell Simmons on a project, as well as joined The Sandbox. Finally, his Twitter profile picture is a Cryptopunk and is also said to own 8 others.
About the Harlem Globetrotters’ NFT Sitcom
The NFT that Harlem Globetrotters are releasing will be sold exclusively on vast.app. “Marking the NFT drop as part of the Globetrotters’ New Tech, New Trainer, New Tour campaign, the NFT sitcom, “Da Dogg Gone Gym” features a 1970’s era Snoop Dogg as a Globetrotter trainer along with Bay Area dancer and viral sensation Junebug,” the announcement notes. The sitcom NFT description also states: Complete with canned applause and laugh tracks, the sitcom serves up the same lighthearted appeal and basketball cred that define both the Harlem Globetrotters and Snoop Dogg.
Several Globetrotters players and staff have said it’s a dream come true to work with the ‘iconic hip-hop legend’. This is named the ‘First NFT Sitcom’ in the trailer and gives us a look at how films and TV shows may be sold in the future. The influence and help from NFT ‘whale’, Snoop Dogg will help out in this project. His knowledge in the space will allow hopefully for a bigger and more successful launch.
