Lego and Epic games are collaborating to build a child-friendly metaverse. Their statement said the partnership’s mission is “make it safe and fun for children while also providing an immersive digital environment for children to play in.”
Lego and Epic Games Creates a Metaverse Safe for Children
At this time, both Epic Games and Lego didn’t reveal the specifics details about their upcoming metaverse. However, they released three principles that will guide them as they construct a safe digital space.
First, they will always prioritize the safety and well-being of children. Moreover, protecting their privacy will be a primary interest. Lastly, both children and adults will have tools that will allow them to take control of their digital experiences.
Epic CEO and founder Tim Sweeney stated, “The Lego Group has captured children and adults’ imaginations through creative play for over a century. We are pleased to cooperate in building a fun, engaging, and family-friendly area in the metaverse.”
“Kids enjoy playing in digital and physical worlds and move seamlessly between the two. We believe there is huge potential for them to develop lifelong skills such as creativity, collaboration, and communication through digital experiences. But we have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring, and beneficial for all,” Niels B Christiansen, the CEO of Lego, said.
According to Sweeney, the metaverse is an “online playground”. Through it, users can play games and watch Netflix movies together. Epic said they are working on a “family-friendly” digital experience that would “empower youngsters to become confident creators”.
As of writing, there is no information on how this new metaverse would appear or when it will be launched.
