Manchester United is not only one of the most famous football clubs in the world but also one of the richest, now they’re potentially stepping into NFTs after their partnership with blockchain, Tezos is set to be announced. This isn’t the first time Tezos has partnered with a sports team, after their work with McLaren (F1), Red Bull (F1), New York Mets (baseball) and Team Vitality (eSports).
About the Partnership
Manchester United recently inked a multi-year sponsorship deal with Tezos blockchain reportedly in the range of $27 million per year. This deal will allow Tezos to place its logo on the team’s training kits. This deal has not been published by either party. However, it has been reported that Manchester United has finished filming promotional content for the announcement.
This was first reported by The Athletic, who mentioned that this contract may also include endeavours beyond the training kit sponsor. These may include moves into the Web3 and Metaverse. This would be Manchester United’s first move into this area. However, we’ve seen it a lot within sports across the world.
About Crypto Sponsorships in Sports
Crypto sponsorships are becoming more and more common within sports. From Watford FC in the Premier League partnering with Dogecoin, t0 crypto.com partnering with the F1 and UFC. The concept of crypto companies sponsoring sports leagues and teams is becoming normal and accepted by the wider array of sports fans. There are clearly huge sums of money coming from these blockchains, exchanges and cryptocurrencies. So fans and owners will certainly not be complaining.
About Manchester United
Manchester United is one of the most iconic football teams in the world. With a reach of 54 million on Instagram alone, they have a devoted fan base from around the globe.
Besides the brand name, they are also an extremely successful team on the pitch. Particularly in the era of Scottish manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. In their history, the Red Devils have won a record 20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, five League Cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields. They’ve also won the Champions League 3 times.
However, in more recent years, since the departure of Ferguson, the team has struggled. Despite this, they made a big-money move for superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the Summer. This is in the hopes of competing for more titles.
