After their Chinese counterparts stepped into the space, McDonald’s USA has made their first step into the NFT space. They will be giving out 10 McRib NFTs by interacting with their Twitter account in a certain way.
About the McDonald’s NFT
To celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary in the United States, McDonald’s is reintroducing the McRib to their menu and celebrating with a limited edition NFT. 10 lucky winners who follow their Twitter and interact with certain posts by retweeting will receive NFTs. Consequently, the fine snack will arrive back in McDonald’s USA outlets on November 1, with an NFT “sweepstake” occurring from November 1st-7th. The McRib was always popular between 1981-1985 when it was available, and the return on the blockchain is making fans of the company nostalgic and excited.
The Future of Fast Food NFTs
Certainly, fast food could be the next industry to be big on NFTs. Major companies like Taco Bell, Burger King and Budweiser have previously released NFTs. Additionally, McDonald’s El Salvador became the first major fast-food place in the world to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. In El Salvador, Bitcoin is now legal tender.
Particularly, Budweiser has been extremely bullish on NFTs. They have collaborated with VaynerNFT, GaryVee’s NFT consultancy to get involved in the space. Since this partnership, Budweiser purchased a .eth domain name for 30 ETH ($120,000 at the time). Additionally, they also purchased more ‘fan-made NFTs.
Unquestionably, in the future, we hope to see more fast food companies release NFTs to a large scale audience. There is so much potential with the kind of audience McDonald’s, Burger King, etc. have. According to the McDonald’s website, they serve 3.5 million people daily in the UK alone. This is just over 5% of the country. This is a huge audience that could be exposed to the space, so we may see a UK expansion of the NFTs.
