Gem, an NFT marketplace, has fired British Twitch streamer, Josh Thompson a.k.a MethodJosh. He was only a part of the Gem.xyz team under a pseudonym, so no one in the team knew who he actually was, as he’d already faced these allegations so didn’t tell people in the Gem team his actual name.
About the Firing of MethodJosh
The NFT marketplace startup recently removed a core developer. The dev, only known to Gem’s staff as Neso, was also one of the company’s primary shareholders.
The removal came after investigating claims of sexual misconduct. It has been confirmed that Josh Thompson or MethodJosh as he’s better known was the individual.
Thompson was a World of Warcraft streamer who used the handles of Joshpriest and MethodJosh. Many victims accused him of several sexual-related crimes in the year 2020.
The company stated on their Discord that they didn’t know of any of these accusations, as the team is fully remote, and ‘Neso’ was an anonymous developer, which is something that is common in the NFT and crypto space. After they discovered and reviewed these allegations, they immediately removed Neso from the team.
Despite his professional pseudonymity, a business paper filed in Singapore, where Gem was incorporated, named Thompson. Based in the United Kingdom, the developer is also a major shareholder. Allocated to him were 16,408 shares in the company – which is equal to the group’s co-founders, Huculak and Vaibhav Saini.
Announced publicly have been no further details about MethodJosh’s exit from the company.
