A RarePepe NFT collectible card depicting the pseudonymous Bitcoin Founder, Satoshi Nakamoto has been sold for just over $500,000 or 147 ETH. The collection, created by Emblem Vault, has even got the attention of fine art houses, with the possibilty of a RarePepe Sotheby’s auction in the future.
Details of the Nakamoto RarePepe NFT that sold for $500,000
The Satoshi Nakomoto Rarepepe was stored on Emblem Vault. Collectors have been using NFT ‘vault’ platforms like these to wrap the original NFTs in ERC-21 form. This makes them tradable on NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea. Essentially, an Emblem Vault is a container that can store tokens or NFTs.
RarePepes are a collection of 300 cards based around the meme which became popular in 2016, Pepe the Frog. The Satoshi Nakamoto RarePepe NFT sold by “Comico” was a ‘series 1’ card – one of the rarest in the collection. Another example of how meme culture is such a big thing in NFTs, this follows the rise of Doge NFTs, sad doge and original doge, selling for $2 million and $4 million respectively.
Upcoming RarePepe NFT auction at Sotheby’s?
Besides the Satoshi Nakamoto card sale, RarePepe NFTs have the limelight for other reasons. Obviously, Sotheby’s have been a major player for NFT auctions, along with their competitors, Christie’s. On the 5th birthday of OG NFT series, RarePepes, a member of Sotheby’s staff excited the NFT world. The Head of Contemporary Art Auction and Co-Head of NFTs, Max Moore tweeted:
An 👼 told me it was rare🐸 5th birthday today. Maybe we should celebrate @Sothebys soon?

No one knows how jokingly he was being when tweeting this. However, this means we may see a RarePepe NFT auction in the fine art auction house. Perhaps, this will be one item or a number of them in a lot, but for now that remains speculation. However, it wouldn’t be strange to assume it might follow a similar format to their recent Bored Ape Yacht Club auction.
After the Satoshi Nakamoto NFT sold for $500,00, a RarePepe Sotheby’s auction becomes more likely. Recently, the project has gained steady traction. We are looking forward to seeing these OG collectibles storm the market. Possibly, they could even give the CryptoPunks a run for their money, due to their scarcity. Either way, we’ll keep you updated on the latest NFT news regarding RarePepe actions in future.
