A new Mad Dog Jones auction has begun. The crypto artist opened bidding on a 1:1 NFT yesterday, Monday 11th October, at 10PM ET, or 10AM Hong Kong time on 12th October.
The sale is presented through Digital Art Fair Asia, and the work is a collaborative piece with Australian photographer and 3D artist, Andy Ives, AKA Andyknives, entitled Digital Ascension.
“This is so exciting! This feels like a huge leap and risk! Stepping out on my own with true artist sovereignty is the future we all want! True decentralization [sic],” Mad Dog Jones said in a Tweet shared shortly after announcing the sale. The news led to a flurry of reactions from art fans and NFT collectors.
Mad Dog Jones Auctions Digital Ascension
Some commented on their excitement at the sale itself. Others responded directly to the NFT artwork. ‘Digital Ascension’ is an animated take on a Hong Kong high-rise apartment building, with a static background and random bits of garbage, concrete, and other urban materials floating upwards past the windows.
Other followers shared images of their own hometowns, including one person from Almaty, Kazakhstan. What is clear is the fact that Mad Dog Jones and Andy Ives’ collaboration has drawn a truly global audience. As such it’s no surprise that at the time of writing the highest bid had already hit 29.97925 ETH, around $104,000 US dollars.
Of course, this isn’t the only major NFT auction of the week. Sotheby’s recently announced its second Natively Digital sale, which will begin on Thursday 14th October. Meanwhile, basketball hero Shaquille O’Neal has his own sale launching on Ethernity this Friday 15th October.
