Metarex is the first project to turn a private Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil into an NFT collection thanks to fractional ownership. Collectors and paleontologists, behold!
With over 58 bones offered as 58,000 NFTs, this team’s core goal is to return a real-life T. rex skeleton into academics’ hands where it belongs.
It’s time to move as the NFT sale starts now! Thus, let’s see what Metarex really means and how you can make history too.
What is the Metarex NFT project?
Metarex is the world’s first collection of dinosaur-fossil NFTs. The platform is launching an incredible 59,000 NFTs representing the bones of 1 of only 32 remaining T. rex fossils in the world.
If this sounds precious, it’s because it is. Sadly, though, many historical treasures end up in the wrong hands, instead of allowing paleontologists to do research and preserve them properly. By the wrong hands, we mean private bidders and billionaires. In fact, that’s exactly what happened to another T. rex skeleton called Stan, auctioned off for $32 million during a private Christie’s auction.
This is where Metarex steps in.
Basically, Metarex will use NFTs to crowdfund to purchase the physical T. rex skeleton. Then, they will place it under the care of academics, namely museums. This way, the T. rex fossil will be available to paleontologists for research purposes. Furthermore, it will be protected by modern preservation methods and make paleontology accessible.
Thus, utilizing fractional ownership is like killing two birds with one stone. Academics regain access to historical artifacts they couldn’t afford otherwise. Meanwhile, crypto enthusiasts will have a chance to own something truly unique with real-world value.
The 3D NFTs are including information on each bone, and a 360-degree detailed view.
The perks of owning an NFT Dinosaur
The Metarex NFTs are actual 3D images of the actual fossil bones. Plus, each one grants its holder 0.10-percent ownership of the chosen bones online IP. Thanks to innovative QR tech, holders will be able to identify the physical bones they own as NFTs when visiting the museum.
Impressively, each of the fossil NFTs have a 45% density completion (using the Fields museums treatment of Sue) – way above the 20% museum standards. What’s more, they plan to release a 3D real-life print of their NFT bone each holder will get to excavate themselves! Isn’t this every paleontology enthusiast’s dream come true?
But wait – there’s more!
Users get to choose between Diamond, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Platinum NFTs.
Project DAO and secondary market
According to the whitepaper, project admins will develop a secondary market dedicated to Metarex collectors. There, paleontology enthusiasts will be able to trade their NFTs and enrich their knowledge in the domain.
Part of the economic collection will go to the Metarex Foundation – an initiative aiming to support academic research. In fact, the Foundation will act as a DAO where the Metarex community can vote to support important paleontology projects. Furthermore, the team can use the funds for excavations, artifact preservation, and other similar tasks.
Essentially, they wish to educate us all about Dinosaurs in general – How cool!
MetaRex NFTs and Dinosaurs in the Metaverse
The Metarex team’s core goal of recovering a 66-million years old T. rex skeleton is beyond impressive. However, it isn’t their only mission.
Accordingly, the project also aims to educate the public on paleontology in innovative ways. For example, the team will develop a T. rex Education Center metaverse where users can see a highly detailed 3D T. rex model. In addition, visitors will get exclusive information and facts about the specimen.
Moreover, Metarex has also prepared 1,000 full T. rex digital assets, called Master NFTs. For each background of the collection, there will be one such Master NFT, resulting in 58k singular assets. If any holder manages to collect all 58 unique NFTs, they will receive the following:
- Exclusive metaverse experiences (soon to be revealed)
- A master NFT of the full fossil
- Metarex website username of King of The Tyrant Lizards.
Additionally, the Metarex team also let us know that there may be something secret in store: The T. rex metaverse will be connected to other metaverses enabling a frictionless NFT experience across digital worlds. These metaverses are being developed by Metarex shareholders Xave and Atari’s Alphaverse.
If you’re ready to become a part of this groundbreaking project, mint your own T. rex bone via the Metarex official website. Make sure to join the Discord server and follow their Twitter account for exclusive info and releases too!
