Paris 2024 Olympics May Introduce NFT Tickets

Tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics might be sold as NFTs – at least that’s what the French Government’s Olympics envoy recommends! The official, Michel Cadot, believes that blockchain tech is safer than traditional ticketing systems.

Accordingly, attendees will receive their digital tickets via SMS and QR codes just a few days before the event begins. In addition, Cadot advised the Prime Minister’s Office to implement blockchain ticketing for all major sports events held in Paris.

Are we going to mint NFT tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Michel Cadot, the French Government’s Olympics envoy, suggested the implementation of NFT tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics! The news comes from his 30-page report submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office last week.

Accordingly, the report also includes five recommendations to improve security protocols for upcoming sporting events held in France. One of these recommendations is to use blockchain tech for all non-transferable tickets.

How will the ticketing system work?

Basically, Michel Cadot wrote that each event attendee should receive their ticket as a rotating QR code via blockchain tech. The Olympics organizers will send the NFT tickets just a few days before the event begins.

Furthermore, the NFT tickets will become active within a certain perimeter of the event’s location. All in all, this innovative system should reduce the risk of ticket fraud. In fact, the recommendation comes right after the ticket fraud that happened during the UEFA Champions League in Paris.

“This coordination should be applied to other Major International Sporting Events of major importance upstream of the cut of the Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games. It would make it possible to prefigure the planned systems and to break in the working methods, as well as the reflexes of multi-actor management to face difficulties,” Michel Cadot wrote in the report.

Olympic participants are no strangers to NFTs either. For example, the Great Britain Olympic team launched its own NFT collection last summer. You can read more about it right here!
