Iconic food and beverage company, Pepsi enters the NFT game with an assist from VaynerNFT! Gary Vee’s NFT consulting and strategy company designed the NFT collection for Pepsi, and is helping bring them to market.
PepsiCo Releasing 1,893 “Mic Drop” NFTs For Free (+Gas Fees)
The “Pepsi Mic Drop” NFTs will be released on Tuesday, December 14th at 12:30 PM EST. What’s more, Pepsi is dropping them for free. Even so, collectors will still need to pay for Ethereum gas fees when they mint the NFTs.
However, the drop will only be available to people who make it onto the waitlist. To explain, the waitlist opens on Friday, December 10th at 12:00 PM EST. Hopeful collectors can visit the website for the collection on that day to try and get on the waitlist.
As shown above, the NFTs are variations of a microphone with many different traits, including some inspired by flavors of Pepsi. Evidently, Pepsi went with the microphone base as a nod to their long history of partnerships within the music industry.
There will be a total of 1,893 NFTs in the collection. Significantly, this number marks the year Pepsi was born. That being said, Pepsi will be making 1,843 of the NFTs available. Pepsi will hold onto the remaining 50 NFTs from the collection for later initiatives they have planned.
Pepsi Becomes The Latest Global Brand To Launch NFTs
The “Mic Drop” collection is Pepsi’s debut in the NFT world. They are following the path of a number of iconic, global brands that have released NFTs this year. For example, Coca-Cola and Budweiser have each dropped NFTs in 2021. And that’s just to list two major names in Pepsi’s industry.
While Pepsi is not the first of these brands to drop NFTs, it is still looking to stand out from the crowd. Particularly, its decision to release the NFTs for free is notable. By the same token, Pepsi decided to shape its waitlist to limit people from buying multiple NFTs.
Pepsi’s VP of Marketing, Todd Kaplan, explained the strategy in the company’s press release. “We created the Pepsi Mic Drop genesis NFT collection for our fans, putting their interests and needs at the forefront by ensuring the NFTs are all free of charge and presented equitably as an inclusive and accessible opportunity for anyone to experience the exciting world of NFTs.”
VaynerNFT Grows Its Presence In The NFT Space
Of course, even though Pepsi is new to the game, the drop comes in partnership with an established name in NFTs. As has been noted, Pepsi worked with VaynerNFT to design and create the collection. That is to say, the project also involves major NFT creator and influencer, Gary Vee. The Vee Friends’ creator and Chairman of VaynerX also stated his excitement about the project in its press release.
“I love that Pepsi is embracing one of the most significant technology shifts of our lifetime… this is an exciting moment for the brand to build loyalty and bring immense value to its community and fans,” said Gary Vee.
Without a doubt, the drop will get a lot of attention from Pepsi fans and the NFT community alike. All things considered, it is safe to assume that the waitlist will fill up very quickly.
