A new project by crypto community imnotArt is creating a physical NFT gallery in Chicago for all to see. The result will be a physical version of the popular imnotArt art collection online. The show opens June 3 at a gallery at 1010 North Ashland.
The group has over 600 members, with regular events on Discord. Their virtual gallery is hosted by Cryptovoxels, where new digital works of art are uploaded weekly for regular events. Members can browse the gallery and chat online, just like how they will in person.
Opening physical doors to the NFT experience
The group is already thriving, so opening up to the physical world adds another layer. For many, the idea of NFTs is confusing and scary. But by using a traditonal physical space to showcase NFTs, they’re making exciting new works accessible to all.
One of the great assets of the NFT community is how they discover, assist and promote each other. Tools like Twitter, Reddit and Discord allow artists and collectors to engage in ways the traditional art world won’t. Rather than making it all about a select group of talents at the expense of all else, imnotArt spreads opportunity around.
A gateway gallery
The gallery opening marks an important expansion in the crypto world. There are examples of NFTs being featured by old-school organizations like Christie’s or Sotheby’s. But it’s always more of a curiosity than a something to be taking seriously. By creating a special physical gallery for NFTs, imnotArt is allowing crypto art to live on its own terms.
The gallery opens June 3. Visit the imnotArt website for more information.
