Playboy NFTs are still supporting cannabis reform with their “joint” trait

    By Bryan TeohJanuary 6, 2022Updated:September 21, 20222 Mins Read

Playboy is one of the pioneering activists for the use of marijuana, both recreational and medical. Playboy NFTs represent one of their most recent avenue in supporting the cannabis law reform. Their latest NFT drop, Playboy Rabbitars, has a “joint” trait. 8% of the collection have this trait where the bunny is seen smoking a cannabis joint.

The company released the Playboy Rabbitars NFT collection in late 2021. The 11,953-wide party features the Rabbitar character generated from 175 possible traits. The bunnies will have one trait from each of the 10 categories: accessories, background, clothing, expression, eyes, fur, hats and ears, mouth, neck, and a special trait.

Playboy: Weed Warrior since the 1960s

Playboy has played a significant role in the decriminalization of marijuana in many American states. In 1970, the lifestyle company offered around $6,000 to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML). This fund was used to campaign against marijuana prohibition and advocate for just laws and the fair treatment of users.

Later that year, Playboy committed roughly $120,000 to NORML every year. They would often publish full-page articles in Playboy magazines featuring the use of marijuana. In addition, the company organized fundraisers and held interviews to support this cause. In 2019, NORML’s Keith Stroup said that they would have ceased to exist after 6 months if it weren’t for Playboy’s support.

NFT communities are often the core of successful projects. Consequently, Playboy has managed to attract a group of like-minded people, building a supportive community to support this cause.
