Legendary Indian artist, Raja Ravi Varma’s most valuable works such as The Coquette and Reclining Nair Lady were auctioned at RtistiQ, Singapore’s online leading art marketplace. gallery g and Raja Ravi Varma collaborated to organize the auction event.
Raja Ravi Varma: Goddess Lakshmi lithograph sold for 2x of the reserve price
Apart from the above-mentioned top-selling art pieces, the NFT drops included five lithographs from the artist’s Gods and Goddesses series. These NFT drops sold for more than the reserve price of $999. Especially, the Goddess Lakshmi lithograph, which sold for the highest bid of $2,150. This price is actually more than twice the reverse price following a bidding war that resulted in a bid extension.
Meanwhile, beautiful Saraswati and Yashoda lithographs sold for $1700. Whereas the Hindu great Lords Shankar and Vishnu’s lithographs sold for $1,400 and $1,350, respectively.
Basically, the lithographs were recreations of some of Raja Ravi Varma’s iconic works. To explain, these lithographs depicted Indian gods and goddesses in colourful garments and pretty jewellery.

Already, various enthusiasts from all over the world placed 45 bids over the three days of the auction. Interestingly, this auction has a number of firsts, including Raja Ravi Varma’s first and only digital NFT.

Raja Ravi Varma is one of the greatest painters in Indian art history. One of the best examples of the fusion of European academic art with a purely Indian sensibility and iconography are his works. He was also known for making lithographs of his paintings available to the public at a reasonable price. His lithographs increased public participation in the fine arts and defined artistic tastes among the general public.
