Rare Buffalo Trace Bourbon To Be Sold Off As NFTs For Charity

    By Reethu RaviMarch 9, 2022Updated:September 21, 20223 Mins Read

Today, Buffalo Trace Distillery announced that it will sell rare O.F.C. Bourbon Whiskey as NFTs on BlockBar. Distilled in 1982, the ultra-rare whiskey is the only vintage-dated bourbon from Buffalo Trace. The Distillery will release five of these six-liter-sized bottles in a five-day auction starting Monday, March 14 on BlockBar. In fact, this is the first auction and bourbon sale for BlockBar, one of the leading NFT marketplaces for luxury wines and spirits. The proceeds from the auction will benefit five different charities.

“Buffalo Trace Distillery is world renowned and we’re honored to launch our first bourbon on Blockbar.com with five of their most coveted bottles,” said Dov Falic, co-founder and CEO of BlockBar. “The partnership marks our first live auction and to mark this milestone we are delighted to donate the proceeds of this drop to support the chosen non-profits of Buffalo Trace.”

BlockBar x Buffalo Trace: All about the auction

All in all, Buffalo Trace plans to give away 2,022 bottles of the rare Bourbon whiskey this year. Of this, five O.F.C. Vintage 1982 will go on auction on BlockBar at a starting bid of around $25,000 (8.83 ETH). The auction will start at 10 am EST on Monday, March 14 and last till 10 am EST on Friday, March 18. BlockBar accepts payments in both ETH as well as fiat. Once the auction goes live, you can place the bids here.

Proceeds from each of the final bids will support five charities. These are World Central Kitchen, The James Beard Foundation, Elton John Aids Foundation, The Art of Elysium, and 261 Fearless.

World Central Kitchen is an NGO that helps provide meals to those affected by natural disasters. Currently, the organisation is providing meals to Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Romania, and Moldova. On the other hand, The James Beard Foundation runs an Open for Good campaign to help independent restaurants survive this crisis.

A global HIV charity, Elton John Aids Foundation takes initiatives to prevent new cases of HIV, fight stigma, and help those affected. Next, The Art of Elysium is an artist organization that focuses on bringing social change through art. Lastly, 261 Fearless is a global, non-profit women’s running organization that encourages and brings women together through running.

More about O.F.C. Vintage 1982 Bourbon Whiskey

The O.F.C. vintages get their name from the Buffalo Trace Distillery’s original moniker, the Old Fashioned Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery. The bourbon was distilled in 1982 at the then-called George T Stagg Distillery. In 1998, when the distillery took an inventory of all barrels, they left these to age until 2001. Then, the distillery vatted these 19-year-old bourbons into stainless steel tanks. Since then, they have been maturing for over a quarter of a century. Harlen Wheatley, a master distiller at Buffalo Trace Distillery, describes the taste as “sophisticated, with an extraordinary richness and butteriness with layers of apple, pecans, ripened pear, dark Belgian chocolate, caramel and a kiss of black cherries”.

Each BlockBar NFTs will represent the physical bottle of Buffalo Trace’s O.F.C Vintage 1982. Auction winners can redeem the bottles till December 31, 2022. Once redeemed, they will also get a private VIP tour to Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY. The tour includes exclusive tastings of the distillery’s rarest and most sought-after private collection of whiskeys.
