The special-edition collection carries the name MCMLXVI in honor of Mondavi’s 1966 founding year. It consists of three 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines from Mondavi’s famed To Kalon heritage vineyard. Then, produced by three notable Napa Valley winemakers.
Mondavi’s crypto adoption efforts are one of the largest and most large-scale shifts in the wine industry. Most of the existing initiatives are on the distribution channel. Meanwhile, Mondavi’s move compels other large brands to follow suit. For example, partner company Constellation Brands was able to bring in leading NFT figure Gary Vaynerchuk as an advisor.
This pivot is s a game-changer because blockchain technology allows consumers to understand the full life cycle of the products. So now they have a clear view of the development of the supply chain and issues around sustainability to authentication.
‘This is on the forefront of how we think, in the future, luxury wine is going to be distributed, especially to fine wine collectors,” said Robert Hanson, president of wine & spirits at Constellation Brands.
The NFTs will be available for purchase on December 15, just in time for the Christmas holidays! For $3500, the tech-relevant bottles will soon hit the market. Buyers will also receive their NFT upon purchase and the bottles will ship in September 2022.
