With more and more magazines experimenting with NFT covers it should come as no surprise one of the biggest titles in culture is diving in two-feet-first. A new Rolling Stone Bored Ape Yacht Club partnership has been unveiled. Essentially, the publication has handed two of its feted front pages over to the best-selling non-fungible token series.

Two covers have been created featuring Bored Ape Yacht Club avatars. The collaboration began with a physical version around one week ago. All 2,500 copies of the hard print version sold in seconds. Now the same artwork is being put up for auction in crypto form, using the SuperRare marketplace. Bidding began yesterday, 10th November, and will close on 15th November 2021.
Within a matter of hours, prospective buyers had tipped the price point to 10 ETH, or $47,000, which gives some idea as to the level of demand for this sale. The cover shot itself shows a classic Bored Ape smoking a cigarette against a backdrop of bananas. However, this isn’t the only cover up for grabs. A separate Rolling Stone Bored Ape image is also available, this one featuring a Mutant Ape, a separate NFT series created by the Bored Ape team, Yuga Labs. This is also being sold on SuperRare, with the two auctions running concurrently.
More from the Rolling Stone Bored Ape Collaboration
Don’t worry if things are a little tight this month. The Rolling Stone Bored Ape collaboration has only just begun. These covers are the first of seven planned. The remaining five are yet to be unveiled, and will each be created by a different NFT artist.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of other opportunities to grab a magazine-related NFT asset. So far, The Economist, The New York Times, Playboy, and TIME have all explored non-fungible projects. It’s important to note that these all sold very well indeed. Elsewhere, Fortune created its own tokens which were sold on the OpenSea marketplace. However, these were markedly different from many others, with imagery and content changing depending on who placed a bid.
