US Congress candidate, Shrina Kurani has a unique reason for running for Congress—to advocate for Web3. The Indian American engineer entrepreneur is also the first-ever candidate to launch NFTs for a federal campaign. She’ll use all the funds from the NFT sale to fund her run in California’s 42nd Congressional District.
“There’s a lot of misunderstanding in terms of what crypto is, what crypto can be, the direction that it’s going in, who it serves,” she told CoinDesk. “And I think there’s a way for us to be able to build more of a bridge between policymakers and folks in the space to be able to actually have more of a conversation…My second goal…is actually engaging the crypto community to be able to participate in the future of crypto legislation.”
Web3 and NFTs in Shrina Kurani’s election campaign
Shrina Kurani’s aim is to build a “better future”. To be at the forefront of innovation, Kurani deems it necessary to support emerging technologies like Web3. Along with this, she said, it is essential to bring more “people into the fold” and “responsibly” build 21st-century digital services for “transparency, efficiency, and access.”
“As we seek to build out the 21st century economy together, we can leverage technology to include more people than ever before to not just be consumers but owners of their property, assets, identities, including art,” she wrote.
Additionally, as part of her campaign, Kurani is launching NFTs at 12:27 pm Pacific Time on December 27. The NFTs will go live on SolSea, an open NFT marketplace on Solana. Besides, the NFTs will have a minimum bid of $200 and a maximum of $5800.
Remarkably, Kurani also plans to create a Discord server to engage the community! We are clearly looking at the possibilities Web3 can bring to election campaigns in the future. Metaverse campaign rallies could be next!
