The notorious collector of high-value NFTs, 3f Music, just purchased the Side Eyeing Chloe NFT for 25 ETH or $75,000. The 2013 meme is an iconic part of the early meme culture. In fact, Buzzfeed once dubbed it as the “The Only Reaction You’ll Need for Anything Ever.”
Aside from the price tag, this purchase is generating press coverage because 3F Music has a near-monopoly of the Meme NFT space. Farzin Fardin Fard is the founder of this Dubai-based music recording studio and the proud owner of over 393 NFTs. Actually, his huge NFT portfolio includes classics like Disaster Girl ($390,000) and Overly Attached Girlfriend ($411,000).
The Story Behind Side Eyeing Chloe’s NFT
Memes had a headstart in using NFTs because it represents the early days of the internet and holds relatable references to pop culture. The side-eyeing Chloe NFT is a classic example. It is a screengrab of two-year-old Chloe Chlem’s reaction after finding out about the surprise trip to Disneyland. While Chloe’s sister, Lily, was ecstatic about the news of her three-day trip, Chloe couldn’t care less.
The best part? Chloe’s mother, Katie, filmed the entire thing and captured the contrasting reaction of her two children. A lot of people, over 20 million to be exact, viewed the clip. Then, the screengrab of Chloe “side eyeing” was reproduced countless times as a meme and most recently as an NFT.
The NFT Twist
The family sold the screengrab, a 660×371 image, as an NFT on September 24. Each pixel thus costs 30 cents. Katie told the BBC, “The money is awesome but it’s the fact that we get to do this as a family is so much fun.”
Asked what she plans to do with the Side Eyeing Chloe NFT Sales, Katie shared that the family intends to HODL the ETH. She added, “In” an ever-changing world, it may be worth more next week.” The family plans to enjoy some of the proceeds though. “We’ll definitely get a Walt Disney holiday out of this next year!” Who knows? This Disney trip might give us another iconic meme!
