Who Are Club Universitario de Deportes?

Club Universitario de Deportes is often classed as one of the biggest football clubs in Peru. They currently sit 9th in the Peruvian Primera División but last season finished  6th. Their stadium is Estadio Monumental, which holds  85,000 people. Coupled with Alianza Lima, they are one of the two most popular teams in the country.  In 2006, a study was conducted and it revealed that 35% of people supported Alianza Lima. With 32% supporting Club Universitario de Deportes. If the numbers are anywhere near that, in a country of over 32 million people, the number of supporters is huge. Altogether, this makes them a perfect match for SoRare, who are looking to expand their userbase.

    What is SoRare?

For those who don’t know, SoRare is a fantasy football game based around NFTs. The players you buy are in NFT form and you build a team to match up against other managers. Points are earned based on players’ performances in the real world. The more points, the higher you place in your league at the end of each season. They have officially licensed deals with over 180 clubs worldwide, with more being added on a weekly basis.

What Will Come from the SoRare Launch in Peru?

Certainly, this new launch from SoRare of a team in Peru will introduce the game to a brand new market. The company continue to build on what they currently have. Consequently, this deal is a success for both parties, we may see more teams from the Peruvian Primera División join the platform. For example, if Alianza Lima joins the platform, it will allow for further user growth from fans of more teams. So far, the league and team deals have been a success, so it makes sense for more to join the up-and-coming platform.
