The “Arc De Triomphe, Wrapped” a temporary artwork for Paris, will be on view for 16 days from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 3, 2021. Nearly 270,000 square feet of polypropylene fabric and 10,000 feet of red rope will cover the Champs-Élysées landmark.

Arc De Triomphe Preparatory Sketches NFT
Under the title “The Final Christo,” 25 sketches for the installation of L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped will be offered for private sale. It will include maps, architectural plans, photographs and engineering drawings in pastel and paint. Sotheby’s will also exhibit the sketches at the Paris headquarters to coincide with the unveiling of the wrapped monument. Aside from the sketches, Sotheby’s is also selling samples of the silvery-blue polypropylene fabric.
This project is “the art event of the year.” Prices for the works range from $150,000 to $2.5 million. Meanwhile, proceeds from the sale will benefit the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation.
During his lifetime, Christo regularly sold sketches to support the making of his public projects. The L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped project required $16.9 Million to complete. To raise the funding requirement, Christo and Jean Claude sold prints and sketches from their personal archives.
About The Artists
Christo first thought of wrapping the Arc de Triomphe when he lived nearby in 1961. According to Simon Shaw, Sotheby’s vice chairman of global fine arts, “It is finally going to happen, 60 years later.”
Christo and Jeanne-Claude are known for temporarily draping buildings, monuments, and various other public sites in fabric for works known as “wrappings.” Their most famous large-scale installations include Valley Curtain, Wrapped Reichstag and The Gates in New York.
In February, Sotheby’s sold works from the husband-and-wife duo’s personal collection worth $11.2 Million. Thus, this NFT drop will be a commercial success as well.
