Famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami released a collection of Flower NFTs early this year. The Murakami NFT collection of 11,664 flowers marks Takashi’s iconic artwork.

What to expect from the collection
Since then, Takashi Murakami has spent time in the NFT space learning about the technology. In October, he accepted an invitation to work alongside RTFKT, the virtual fashion group, on an NFT project. The collection of 20,000 NFTs launched in December.
Takashi Murakami Flower NFTs contain a hidden message
Murakami’s vision for a metaverse takes inspiration from a scene at the foot of Japan’s sacred mountain, Fuji, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Ultimately, his vision is to create a virtual world where Murakami Flowers will co-exist with Murakami’s other “titles and business endeavours”.
What’s more, in December 2022, the artist plans to release a portable game with an LCD monitor. Apart from this, he also has plans to start developing digital games. With a vision to bridge the physical and virtual world, Murakami will also hold real-life art exhibitions in art venues across the globe.
To start with, Murakami held an exhibition in May, 2022 at Gagosian, the leading global contemporary art gallery, at their Madison Avenue location in New York. There, the artist exhibited his works created in collaboration with Clone X. In addition, he exhibited several of his real-world Murakami Flower paintings as well.
The Murakami.Flowers Seed NFTs
Another key point about the Murakami.Flowers is that each NFT is minted as a seed prior to reveal. Following a presale for 3,000 RTFKT Clone X holders, the long-awaited, and mysterious, public sale for the Murakami Seed NFTs has rolled out over early April, 2022.
Of the total NFTs, 4,000 were set aside for Whitelist and friends and family. Of the remaining, 6,751 were sold through a lottery in a public sale and 727 NFTs were set aside as Lucky 727 Proof. In fact, Murakami considers 727 to be his lucky number.
“After that, there are 78 in the Zen Number Proof, and the Bonnō Proof has 108 for the number of earthly temptations,” Murakami wrote. “I intend to release these last two one day, when the time is ripe.”
Soon after launch, the sales of the pre-reveal Takashi Murakami NFTs went through the roof. To illustrate, as of April 20, the 9,500 seeds sold till then had a floor price of 5.77 ETH on OpenSea. In addition, they’ve amassed a trade volume of 22.9K ETH up to this point.
At the time, Murakami NFTs were second on OpenSea’s ranking of NFT collections by 7-day trade volume. The only project ahead of the seeds over that time span was the hugely successful Moonbirds collection.
Today, about 9,200 Flowers Seeds have been revealed. As of June 12, these have a floor price of 3.59 ETH, boasting 14,400 ETH in trading volume.
Murakami Flower Holders to Get An Airdrop
In early June 2022, Murakami Flowers announced an airdrop for all Flower NFT collection holders. Each Flower NFT is will receive one airdrop. However, only those who have revealed their flowers are eligible for the airdrop.
To make sure to get the airdrop, NFT holders have to register their wallet on the official Murakami Flower website. At the bottom, there is a ‘Register your wallet for airdrop button’. In case someone is yet to reveal their flower, they can do so on the Murakami seed reveal website. But, make sure to do it before 11:59 pm GMT on June 12 as that is when the project will take the wallet snapshot. Later, it will airdrop the new NFTs based on this snapshot.
For now, Takashi Murakami has not revealed much details about what exactly the airdrop will be. That said, given the project’s hype and Murakami’s stardom, the community is sure excited!
Hiccups Along the Way
Not everything has been smooth sailing with the seeds, however. Indeed, according to comments on the project’s social media accounts, it appears as though some people fell victim to scam minting sites in hopes of scoring the highly desired NFTs.
Other complaints point to a number of wallets amassing hundreds of Takashi Murakami NFTs as proof of people using bots to rig the raffle for public sale slots. Unfortunately, this is par for the course when it comes to notable drops as sought-after as this one.
In any case, the people who did get a chance to get in on the NFTs early will certainly be celebrating the project’s rapid surge. Whether the NFTs’ performance carries through the reveal is anyone’s guess. Although given the status of the collection’s legendary creator, chances are the project will continue to attract significant demand.
