In a staggering turnaround, Team17 announced yesterday that they are no longer working on a MetaWorms NFT project. It seems that the decision to halt the collaborative project between Reality Gaming Group and Team17 was subject to several reasons.
Ultimately, Team17 decided this after consultation with its community.
In a statement by Team17, the company stated that “Team17 is today announcing an end to the MetaWorms NFT project. We have listened to our teamsters, development partners, and our games’ communities, and the concerns they’ve expressed. Therefore we’ve taken the decision to step back from the NFT space.”
It would be awesome to see a MetaWorms NFT project. However, it is also great to see a company listening to its community for a change.
Team17 is a British game developer and publisher who created Worms in 1994. Since then, it has become a hugely popular game, spanning three decades, across generations of games lovers. The game enjoys a cult status and is still going strong.
The plans for the worms NFT project was dubbed MetaWorms and intended to celebrate almost 30 years of the Worms game.
Finally, this proves that the NFT community is currently in the very early stages. Although it seems like every company in the world is entering the space, there is a lot of hesitancy regarding NFTs. As MetaWorms fades into the distance, we should consider ways to encourage people to learn about and join the NFT space.
