The first ever Wikipedia edit is now on sale as an NFT

    By YoloDecember 4, 2021Updated:September 21, 20222 Mins Read

The king of knowledge websites – Wikipedia, is entering the NFT world via the sale of its first edit. Moreover, the Wiki NFT features the very first edit ” Hello World” done by Jimmy Wales on January 15, 2001.

    More about the Wikipedia’s NFT

Well, not only the ‘first edit’ as NFT but the iMac computer which Jimmy used to create the website, is also open for auction.

The auction is called ‘The Birth of Wikipedia’ and it began from December 3 until December 5.

Likewise, the auction is occurring at the website Christies.com. Where the bid started from $100 has now reached $700 for the Wiki NFT and $300 for the iMac computer.

Interestingly, whoever becomes the final buyer will be able to edit the original edit freely.

Besides, money from the auction will be channelled into Wale’s current project ‘W. T. Social’. This project aims to build a non-toxic alternative to social platforms. Additionally, the funds will support various charities.

    About Wikipedia

Since its initial release, Wikipedia is a giant collection of knowledge with more than 6.4 billion articles. We all are very well aware, that the site covers almost every topic we search. Thus, it ranks as the 13th most popular site with almost 2 billion visits each day.

Jimmy Wales quoted on the Wiki NFT as “to express artistically what [he thinks] was meaningful about that moment of potential and excitement — that you might make something amazing, or you might make something that doesn’t work at all.”
