    About Glorious Digital

In celebration of Mandela Day, the Nelson Mandela Foundation is launching a collection of NFTs. Working closely with the Auckland-based Glorious Digital, the project honours the life and legacy of the former president of South Africa.

There is no official release date yet, but this is a long-term project and will look at the impact Nelson Mandela has left on the world through NFTs. Significantly, the funds from the project will grow the reach of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

The Mandela Foundation are working with Glorious Digital to create a collection of NFTs honouring the former president’s legacy.

    Who is Nelson Mandela?

Nelson Mandela, known as Madiba, was the former president of South Africa, an icon of democracy and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. However, his life was difficult, having lived through the brutal racist and horrific system of white rule known as Apartheid in South Africa.

In trying to end Apartheid, Mandela served 27 years in prison, between 1962 and 1990, mainly on Robben Island. The Nelson Mandela NFTs will focus on all aspects of his life.

In 1990, under rising worldwide pressure and the threat of mass civil unrest, Apartheid began to crumble. Nelson Mandela and other key civil rights activists found themselves finally free.

In 1994, Madiba ran for president 1994 in South Africa’s first-ever free and fair general election. Previously, voting had been a right of whites only. He won, and four years after the cruel system of Apartheid ended, South Africa had its first black president.

Nelson Mandela NFTs will honour his life and legacy

The team behind the project chose July 18th because of its importance. Throughout the world, this date marks Mandela Day. It was the former president’s birthday. The United Nations officially announced the day in 2009.

Nelson Mandela is no longer alive, having died in 2013. However, his influence on South Africa and the wider world will live on. These NFTs will explore the full history of Nelson Mandela and the impact of his life on society.

Nelson Mandela NFTs will offer access to historical artefacts

Because of the partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Glorious Digital will have access to personal papers, photographs, and more. In fact, the project will last ten years and honour the legacy of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

“To be entrusted with Mandela’s archive, legacy, and messages of togetherness, optimism, leadership, equality, freedom and hope, amongst others, is an honour and a privilege,” says Tim Harper, Glorious Digital’s Chief Executive.

    About Glorious Digital

Glorious Digital is a hugely popular agency and marketplace for NFT projects. Recently, the team at Glorious Digital also worked with the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to celebrate 100 years of Wimbledon. The Collection was a huge hit.

Finally, the team will now begin working on the Nelson Mandela NFTs with the Mandela Foundation.
