NFT lovers will soon be able to get their hands on an Alfa Romeo electric car fitted with NFT and blockchain technology. The 2023 Tonale SUV includes a plug-in electric hybrid. This unique car will be available to order in quarter 4 of 2023.
This new and exciting announcement comes as people begin to understand the many uses of NFTs. We could see this as a standard feature in all new vehicles in the future.
Alfa Romeo is moving towards an all-electric standard. The Italian auto company aims to complete this transition by 2027.
What will the Alfa Romeo NFT do?
NFTs are useful for many purposes, and Alfa Romeo plans to utilise the technology in their new cars. The company will use NFT and blockchain technology for data purposes in the Tonale SUV.
Alfa Romeo – owned by Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler), is driving the industry forward. This is most certainly a first for the automobile space. The NFT is capable of certifying the car upon purchase.
Additionally, it will record and store data during the car’s entire life cycle. The technology will also provide service and maintenance history. However, the vehicle must be serviced by a certified Alfa Romeo dealer to record and track the data.
Meanwhile, the head of Marketing at Alfa Romeo, Francesco Calcara, explained the decision as “Digitalization is a key enabler of our metamorphosis. Tonale is the first car ever to keep a blockchain, non-fungible token. NFTs use the same distributed information logic that protects your Bitcoin. It records all data on the blockchain.”
Alfa Romeo enters a new era
The Alfa Romeo NFT car is just the next step in how technology is shaping the future.
The 110-year-old company is making positive steps to embrace electric technology. In fact, The Tonale SUV is the beginning of the end for Alfa Romeo vehicles with a traditional internal combustion engine.
The Tonale itself is a fascinating feat of engineering. Equipped with base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 256 horsepower and 295 foot-pounds of torque. Furthermore, Alfa Romeo is offering a plug-in hybrid electric version. Fitted with a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and an electric range of more than 30 miles.
The car industry and NFTs
As is the case in several industries, car companies are looking to utilise NFTs and explore their capabilities. Lamborghini just announced it is making its NFT debut with a ‘space key’. Recently, Ferrari announced that Web3 is an area they are looking at entering.
However, Alfa Romeo is upping the game with the NFT and blockchain integration. It is much more than a jpeg and offers real-world utility.
Finally, if you are excited, you won’t have long to wait. The car is available to order sometime in Autumn this year. If you cannot wait, there is a video, showing the Tonale SUV in all its glory.
