With the new partnership between TravelX and ClimateTrade in the books, air travelers can now offset their carbon emissions from their flights. The companies just celebrated their partnership at the World Aviation Festival Americas in Miami. Let’s check out this innovative solution.
First things first, why all the hassle?
Air travel leaves a huge carbon footprint every time one of those jets leaves the ground. According to the BBC, 2.4% of global CO2 emissions come from aviation. Besides that, they account for a whopping 5% of global warming. Air travel is indeed the worst way to travel, mile for mile.
However, giving up air travel seems a little far-fetched in today’s pace and economy. As companies work to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, we the travelers can do our part as well. This is where TravelX and ClimateTrade come into the picture.
Offset carbon emissions with TravelX and ClimateTrade
ClimateTrade focuses on helping companies to offset their carbon emissions in a transparent way via blockchain technology. First of all, travelers need to use TravelX’s NFTickets. They are NFT tickets that handle every travel record as an NFT, leveraging the benefits of blockchain technology.
On the other hand, ClimateTrade’s API allows travelers to calculate the emissions of their corresponding flights. Then, they can choose to contribute to mitigation projects from over 60 verified global projects on the ClimateTrade marketplace. This includes projects such as reforestation and renewable energy.
After each transaction, customers will receive a certificate with information about how much CO2 they offset. They will also receive a direct blockchain key to guarantee their direct impact on different Sustainable Developments Goal. This metric will be measured by the UN.
