Renowned Artist Ali Sabet, Legendary Comedian George Lopez and NFT Producer BLK PRL have come together to release a Lucha Masks NFT Collection. The Genesis Collection aims to honor Lucha Libre as part of the Mexican Tradition.
Lucha Libre is the term used in Mexico for professional wrestling which loosely translates to “freestyle wrestling.” It has evolved into a colorful Mexican subculture characterized by colorful masks and exhibition moves like “high-flying” maneuvers.
NFT Collection
The Lucha masks have developed a special significance in the sports. For example, the loser must permanently remove his mask in some fights. This type of wager holds a high degree of weight. The Lucha masks are often designed to evoke images of animals, gods or ancient heroes. In effect, the wrestler or luchador takes on the identity of their mask during the matches and portrays that character.
The Lucha Mask Collection officially branded as the “Cha Cha Luca NFTs” features 52 unique luchadores. Fans can bid for 50 one-of-one Cha Cha Luchas, 1 Luchador Soundtrack or 1Hoodie. Just like a standard NFT Collectible, every character has their own special attributes and ostensible personality. Moreover, the unique traits will cover their likes, dislikes, strengths and superpower.
Acclaimed artist Ali Sabet hand-painted each Lucha Mask. Meanwhile, Comedy Legend George Lopez wrote the unique characteristics of the Luchadors.
Lopez shared why they decided to go with the traditional route for this NFT Collection. He said, “Instead of dropping 10,000 computer-generated collectibles, we wanted to offer a cohesive fine art, hand-painted collectible NFT offering. With each piece born out of pure inspiration directly from the heart of artist Ali Sabet.”
Cha Cha Lucha Beyond the Masks
The Genesis Luchador Soundtrack will also be available as an open edition for a limited period of time, with collectors receiving the digital NFT and a physical vinyl. Additionally, the Genesis edition of the Cha Cha Lucha hoodie will be available, providing the collector with both a digital NFT and a physical hoodie to collect or wear.
“It was so fun conceiving the ideas for digital and physical products, and collaborating in the creation of these products with the NFT artist and entrepreneurial community,” states Lopez.
The project is also launching the Cha Cha Lucha Fight Club. It is a community where Cha Cha Lucha fans, collectors, and collaborators congregate. The club will conduct virtual events, announce collaboration opportunities, and showcase NFT artists’ work.
A staple to the Cha Cha Lucha brand will be to provide Cha Cha Lucha derivative opportunities for the NFT artist and musician community that celebrate the artistic heart, soul, and passion of the Cha Cha Lucha brand.
Lucha Libre NFTs
This is not the first foray of NFTs in the world of Lucha Libre. Back in June, Lucha Libre Superstar Konnan auctioned off an NFT Collection based on his career. In particular, he sold video footages and insights celebrating the 25th-anniversary of moments from a 1996 trios match
