NFT startup Fair.xyz is the mastermind behind Ukraine’s official NFTs, set to launch next week. How did this unlikely collaboration come about?
The upcoming sale shows Ukraine’s willingness to embrace new technology in the face of the ongoing conflict with Russia. The Ukraine sale will consist of 5,000 to 7,000 NFTs. Each NFT will cost approximately $450 and will be sold over the Ethereum blockchain. The artwork comes by way of a select group of Ukrainian artists and will represent scenes from the ongoing war.
Who’s behind the Ukraine NFTs?
Fair.xyz‘s Isaac Kamlish is the mastermind behind the official Ukraine NFTs. He started Fair.xyz last month after working with a blockchain-focused team at Instagram. His new company sells software that simplifies the creation of NFTs. Isaac Bentata Chocron – an ex-Goldman Sachs employee – joined Kamlish in his efforts. The third cofounder is Nathan Cohen, who also worked at Facebook/Meta.
After contacting the Ukrainian government, Fair.xyz immediately built a website that will host the sale next week. Although the Ukrainian government won’t pay Fair.xyz for its work, the benefits of hosting such a popular sale will undoubtedly increase the startup’s reputation.
The upcoming sale isn’t going to be the last of its kind. According to Chocron, “The sad reality is the artwork is going to grow as the war is prolonged.”
Many celebrities and influencers are supporting Ukraine through the sale of NFTs. Recently, Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko released an NFT collection to raise funds for his country.
