In its August development update, the upcoming Crypto Collectible Game Nestables unveiled the breeding prerequisites of the game. The new limitations reflect the developers’ firm belief that “it would be better to have too few Nestables rather than too many.”
Nestables is part of the Enjin Multiverse, a gaming project on the Ethereum Blockchain. Basically, the gameplay revolves around collecting, trading and breeding 3D “Cubes.” Each of them has a unique personality and physical traits. As a player, you can interact with their Cubes by designing, creating and decorating their “Nest.” Then, you can task your Cube with collecting resources or building improvements for the Nest or allow them to relax and play.
Let’s zero in on the breeding component since the recent update mentioned that the team is close to polishing this gameplay aspect.
Nestables’ Updated Breeding Limitations
As mentioned, the guiding principle of the game is that having too few Nestables is better than having too many. So while the requirements can be relaxed, “it isn’t really possible to reduce the number of Nestables that will be in circulation.”
The basic requirement for breeding is that the Nestable should be an adult. Then, only those Nestables with a 90 happiness rating can breed. Moreover, Breeding can only happen once every two weeks; after that, they need to take a rest. There needs to be at least 100 mutual affection between Nestables before they can breed. Finally, every Nestable can only have three kids.
Then, there’s the obvious restriction wherein breeding cannot happen between a parent, sibling and half-sibling or child relationship. Tribal Gaming is still working on this system, so you can expect some changes in the coming months.
How Affection Relates to Breeding
Let’s talk about “affection” using the game’s context since it’s a requirement to breed. That is, for two Nestables to breed, they need to accumulate sufficient mutual “affection.” Affection is not necessarily reciprocated, meaning one Nestable can have more affection for another.
The Affection component is deeply intertwined with the breeding aspect of the game.
Nestables naturally generate affection through interaction. The amount depends on the individual happiness of the Nestables and the type of interaction that is occurring. Mimicking human relationships, a Nestable’s social and cleanliness rating will also play a key role in determining the level of affection.
To illustrate, when two or more Nestables interact, all of them “send” and “receive” affection points. How many points each Nestable sends depends on the interaction occurring and it’s Social and Cleanliness stats in equal proportion. On the other hand, how many points a Nestable receives depends on its overall happiness (equal proportion of all stats).
What’s Next After Breeding?
After breeding, the next important aspect of the gameplay is how baby Nestables grow up or the “Juvenile Phase.”
Based on what we know so far, the focus of this phase is to keep the toddler happy, fed and clean. Doing so will give the baby Nestable the best chance that one of its traits might gain a level. While the team firms up the details, it’s crucial to note that toddler Nestables are high maintenance on purpose.
