In a strange and surprising turn of events, the V1 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT team (V1BAYC) is making a breathtaking claim. The team behind the project is confident that they are the original BAYC project.

The V1 Bored Ape NFT project believes they are the original Ape NFT collection.

In fact, they are openly stating on Twitter and their official website that they are the original ape NFT collection. The V1BAYC team even refers to BAYC as V2 in one tweet.

V1 Bored Ape team is adamant they are the OG Ape project

The V1 Bored Ape team claims to have irrefutable evidence to support their argument. Several tweets shared on their Twitter account point to a video showing images and a creation date. According to the video, the files were created in late March 2021, which would predate the Bored Ape Yacht Club

However, this ‘evidence’ isn’t concrete. It is pretty easy to manipulate dates on images, so this doesn’t prove anything so far. It will be interesting to see what other evidence the V1 Bored Ape team comes up with to support their remarkable claim.

Significantly, the Twitter bio for the V1BAYC NFT states, “Missed Bored Apes? Don’t panic; it’s happening again!” It is a strange choice of words for a project that claims to be the original.

The website states that the V1 Bored Ape project began after purchasing the so-called V1 images from an anonymous source. Furthermore, they say that this person is directly associated with the BAYC team. The long page of text declares that the V1BAYC NFTs are the apes from the first test generation.

Finally, it is unclear what will happen with the V1BAYC NFTs, but they will certainly need to convince more people to see any significant change. BAYC is arguably the biggest NFT collection globally, and the price isn’t going to change overnight because of these claims. It will be interesting to see if the V1BAYC can back up their argument with anything other than the image dates or if they are just another copycat project.
