Depending on who you ask, this was either one of the greatest April Fools pranks ever or just plain evil. A couple of days ago at the Garden Party, the Azuki team announced a surprise airdrop of 2 NFTs for each Azuki NFT. This news got the Azuki community sitting at the edge of their seats, only to wake up to a pile of dirt. No, I mean literally, the original gif turned into an image displaying a pile of dirt. So for each Azuki NFT that you own, you now have TWO piles of dirt.
Owners are still dumbfounded by this discovery. On the bright side, these piles of dirt are still actively trading on OpenSea. Despite the unfortunate transformation, the ‘Something Official’ NFT has a floor price of 4.974 ETH. At the time of writing, the total volume traded is 8.6k ETH and counting. Moreover, the collection description still says: ‘something is coming..’. So, is the episode over or not?
Azuki NFT Airdrop: Legit or Prank?
The Azuki airdrop previously brought about a wave of bullish sentiment as the Azuki NFTs saw a boost in their floor price. While many in the community are either frustrated at their misfortune or laughing about the whole saga, speculation is starting to brew.
A Twitter user thinks it’s soil, rather than plain dirt, indicating that something may be growing. Another Twitter user emphasized the ‘IKZ’ markings on the box before it turned into a pile of dirt. One more says dirt equals land – an Azuki metaverse perhaps? Amidst all the theories, the ton of memes circling on Twitter will definitely brighten up your day.
