Not all NFTs are for sale. MLB Hero Justin Turner announced that he is giving away free NFTs to engage his fans. The condition is quite simple and easy; fans just need to vote for the World Series Champ in the All-Star Game.
Justin Turner’s All-Star Campaign Through NFTs
Justin Turner shared on Twitter that he has been diving into NFTs the past few months. However, he is joining the space in an unconventional route. Turner is giving away free NFTs to fans who will vote for him in the All-Star Game.
Turner’s approach is innovative because there’s zero cost and technical requirement from the fans. Simply vote for him to represent the National League in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game. After casting a vote, fans need to tweet it. Then, the next step is to follow @JTFoundation10. Finally, fans will receive a DM with a unique link to claim the NFT after the voting period ends on Thursday, June 24th.
Turner is currently sitting in third in the All-Star voting behind the Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant and the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado. The top three third baseman in the voting will make the team. However, Turner is less than 10,000 votes ahead of San Diego Padres’ third baseman Manny Machado for the final spot. So this free NFT Campaign can sway things in his favor.
Innovative Approach
Sports and NFTs clicked right away. 80% of the world’s population are sports fans so there’s an established market for sports memorabilia and NFTs. Moreover, NFTs provided an alternative to engage fans despite the lack of sporting events. Even MLB inked a long-term deal with Candy Digital to launch NFTs using the league’s assets. The first NFT Release is a 1/1 offering based on Hall of Fame player Lou Gehrig’s iconic ‘Luckiest Man” speech.
So far, all the Sporting NFTs are geared towards revenue generation so Turner’s approach is a breath of fresh air.
